ThermaVein — the gold standard for the removal of facial veins

Facial Thread Vein Removal in Cape Town with ThermaVein®

Precise treatment for broken capillaries, facial thread veins, spider veins and visible red veins

Fine red veins around the nose, cheeks and chin can become increasingly noticeable over time. Often referred to as broken capillaries, spider veins or thread veins, these are small superficial blood vessels known medically as telangiectasia.

At Wellness by Melissa in Bergvliet, Cape Town, I use a safe and effective technology called ThermaVein® to target unwanted facial thread veins and selected vascular blemishes, helping create a clearer complexion—particularly where small, stubborn vessels around the nose and cheeks require precision.

What Is ThermaVein and How Does It Work?

ThermaVein is a specialised treatment that uses thermocoagulation technology to target an individual visible vessel or vascular blemish.

This makes ThermaVein particularly useful for facial thread vein removal and broken capillary treatment, where I want to work on the vessel itself while minimising the effect on the surrounding skin.

A very fine, sterile, single-use insulated probe works directly over the visible vessel, delivering a controlled high-frequency current. This seals the walls of the targeted vessel, allowing it to be gradually reabsorbed naturally by the body.

Visible improvement can often be seen during treatment, although results vary from person to person.

What Can ThermaVein Treat?

ThermaVein can be particularly effective for:

Not every red mark is the same, so I will assess your skin first to establish whether ThermaVein is appropriate for the area you would like treated.

What to Expect from Your ThermaVein Treatment

  1. 01

    Assessment

I will first assess your skin to determine whether ThermaVein is suitable for your concern.

  2. 02

    During treatment

You will experience a prickling sensation as individual vessels are targeted.

  3. 03

    Visible response

You may see an immediate visible change in the vessels, although the skin continues to settle after treatment.

  4. 04

    After treatment

Some temporary redness, dryness or tiny micro-crusts can occur. The amount varies from person to person and according to the area treated.

  5. 05

    Number of sessions

Some facial veins respond beautifully to a single session, while clusters or more persistent vessels may require additional sessions.

Why ThermaVein for Facial Veins?

01

Precise, targeted treatment

ThermaVein allows me to work directly along an individual visible vessel rather than treating a large area of otherwise unaffected skin.

02

Particularly useful around the nose

The sides and creases of the nose are common areas for stubborn little red vessels and can be difficult to target with broader treatments.

03

Suitable for different skin tones

Unlike light-based treatments, ThermaVein does not depend on targeting pigment within the skin. This makes it suitable across a wide range of skin types and tones.

04

Quick treatment

A ThermaVein Facial Vein Removal appointment at Wellness by Melissa is approximately 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number and extent of the vessels being treated.

05

Minimal downtime

Most clients can return to their normal day following treatment.

ThermaVein, IPL or TCI: Which Is Better for Facial Redness?

They do different jobs, which is why I offer all three.

ThermaVein is particularly useful when I can see individual, clearly defined facial vessels that I want to target precisely.

IPL or TCI may be better suited to more widespread or diffuse redness, where the concern extends across an area rather than being limited to a few individual vessels.

Rosacea, facial flushing, broken capillaries and visible thread veins can also occur together. This is where assessment becomes important to determine whether ThermaVein, IPL, TCI or a combination of approaches would be most appropriate.

Facial Vein Treatment Tailored to Your Skin

With over 20 years’ experience as a qualified Somatologist, my approach has always been to understand what I am treating before choosing how to treat it.

A visible red mark isn't automatically a ThermaVein treatment, and occasionally a vascular concern needs medical assessment rather than cosmetic treatment.

Having several advanced treatment options allows me to choose the approach that makes sense for your skin rather than fitting your skin to a particular machine.

Frequently Asked Questions About ThermaVein

What causes broken capillaries and thread veins on the face?

Visible facial vessels can develop for several reasons, including genetics, ageing, long-term sun exposure and a tendency towards flushing or facial redness. They are particularly common around the nose and cheeks.

Are broken capillaries, thread veins and spider veins the same thing?

These terms are often used to describe the same or similar small visible blood vessels. “Broken capillaries” is a commonly used description, while visible dilated superficial vessels are medically known as telangiectasia.

What is a suitable treatment for broken capillaries on the face?

ThermaVein can be particularly effective when the concern consists of small, clearly defined superficial vessels. If the redness is more widespread or has another underlying cause, a different treatment approach may be more appropriate.

Can ThermaVein treat rosacea?

ThermaVein can target selected individual vessels associated with rosacea, but it does not treat the underlying tendency towards rosacea itself. Diffuse redness, frequent flushing and skin sensitivity may require a broader treatment and skincare plan.

Can ThermaVein treat cherry angiomas and small red spots?

ThermaVein can be used for suitable cherry angiomas and selected small superficial vascular blemishes. Every lesion or red spot should be assessed first to make sure cosmetic treatment is appropriate.

Will a treated facial vein come back?

Once a vessel has been successfully treated, the result can be long-lasting. However, ThermaVein cannot prevent new visible vessels from developing in the future.

Can you treat veins on the legs?

Leg veins need to be assessed differently from facial veins. Very superficial vessels may sometimes be suitable for treatment, but larger spider, reticular or varicose veins can have an underlying venous component and may be better suited to sclerotherapy or assessment by a vascular practitioner.

I will advise you if referral is the more appropriate option.

Not Sure if ThermaVein Is Right for You?

You don't need to know which treatment you need before coming to see me.

If you're concerned about visible red veins, broken capillaries, redness or rosacea on your face, I can assess the area and advise you on the most appropriate treatment for your skin.
